AN APPLICATION OF FUZZY DEMATEL METHOD ON FINANCIAL MISMANAGEMENT AMONG STUDENTS
Abstract
Financial mismanagement is a major problem faced by many organisations including students. Most university students in Malaysia facing problems managing their own money because most of students did not have financial planning in the future and first time manage their own money. Students getting a financial issue is normal, but it cannot be overlooked as it can affect future success. For that reason, it is important to identify the cause and the effects of financial mismanagement, as well as evaluate the ranking of each criteria that contributed to this issue.
Therefore, in this research, the Fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) was applied to study the cause and effect of financial mismanagement among students. DEMATEL method is a practical tool for analysing correlations among factors using crisp value. In this research, the directed influential degrees between pairwise criteria are indicate in triangular fuzzy numbers is used in the DEMATEL method. Six criteria were discussed in this research and it show that there the finding also shows that spending behaviour were ranked at the first followed by financial behaviour, financial independence, financial status and psychology, lack of financial literacy, and financial distress. The result from this research will help students to plan wisely, thus improve their financial status.
