Applying Projectile Motion Model to Determine the Maximum Distance of Javelin Throw

Abstract

Throwing a spear involves speed, technique and strength. If a thrower is flawed in one of these aspects, he can still be competitive. However, an athlete must be quick and strong to be an elite javelin thrower despite of having tremendous technique and knowledge on basic know-how of javelin throw. Initial velocity, initial throw angle and initial throw height is an important component in an athlete’s record. A study shows that the greater the javelin release speed is, the greater the horizontal throwing distance of javelin become. It is necessary to speed up the release speed of the javelin through a variety of means during the training and competition process. To achieve this type of effect, the athletes must go through a long-term training. This paper studies the maximum of the horizontal distance through identifying the optimal angle release and the best throwing angle in javelin throw. In order to gain the accuracy of purposed method, the data were collected through the record of the world’s Olympic athletes and some of the previous studies. Therefore, the best method in order to calculate the maximum of horizontal distance of the javelin throw is projectile motion calculation. Thus, the coach and their athletes can evaluate their estimate records by applying the method in the JAVA application.
